Last year, the Guinness Book of World Records decided that a little pepper grown in South Carolina was the hottest pepper on earth, beating out the infamous ghost pepper. That pepper is the Carolina Reaper.
You might remember my post from last August titled “Reasons to try a ghost pepper” with the accompanying video of me using ice cream to sooth my pain. So what was I to do when I found out the ghost pepper was no longer number one? That’s right: locate one and then hit “record.”
I tried to contact the company in South Carolina directly to get one, but sadly, they were out of season at the time. But a guy named Kenny Howard in Montgomery, Ala. has grown some, and mine came directly from him.
So let’s set the scene here: this past Saturday, I was working on a short film project with the Foolish Henry Films crew titled “City Federal.” I was up at 6 a.m., on set by 8 a.m. and after multiple locations with lots and lots of running (in dress shoes), we wrapped around midnight.
Sunday, I’m tired and sore and aching all over, so what’s a guy to do? That’s right! Eat a Carolina Reaper and have Lindsay Garrett film it for me, just like the ghost pepper video.
