Back on Oct. 14, I mentioned that Old Canes was touring. Old Canes is a side project of Chris Crisci of The Appleseed Cast. Their new album, “Feral Harmonic,” is out on Saddle Creek Records (home of bands such as Bright Eyes, Cursive, Azure Ray, etc.), and it’s really good so you should check it out.
Thursday, Oct. 28 (which is tomorrow), I have the distinct pleasure of opening the Old Canes show at the Caledonia Lounge in Athens, Ga!
This is very exciting for me, as I really like Old Canes, and The Appleseed Cast is one of my all-time favorite bands. And if you haven’t heard their stuff on vinyl, you are missing out. Really. It’s that good.
If you have friends or family in or around Athens, please encourage them to come to the show! Doors open at 10 p.m. (Eastern, of course). The show is 18 and up. The cover is $5 for 21+ and $7 for 18-20. Please spread the word!
Other good and exciting news is that Mogwai just announced that they are releasing a new album early next year. It’s called “Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will,” and it will be released in North America by Sub Pop records.
And finally, in Montgomery-related political news, Jon Dow won the special election for the City Council district 6 seat that was left open after the passing of Willie Cook. I’ve met Jon Dow before, and he always struck me as a good person who was genuine in his concern about the city and his district. Congrats to him.
