‘Spiritus’ screening this Saturday in Montgomery

From the news release:

The producers of the horror film Spiritus are holding a screening on Saturday, April 8, at the Sanctuary in downtown Montgomery. The screening begins at 5 p.m., with a Q&A session held afterwards. Entry is $10. The Sanctuary is located at 432 S. Goldthwaite St.

The film, written and directed by L.C. Holt, tells the story of a troubled girl named Marjorie Hines. One year after her mysterious death, Marjorie’s tormented spirit returns to seek bloody vengeance on those responsible.

“We were able to tell this story in an interesting, nonlinear way,” Holt said. “The story unfolds piece by piece as each of Marjorie’s friends, along with an unscrupulous documentary filmmaker, start to uncover secrets surrounding the circumstances of her death.”

Before stepping behind the camera to direct Spiritus, Holt was focused on acting, and has appeared in films such as You’re Next, V/H/S 2 and Pop Skull.

Holt’s production company Buck’s Row teamed up with fellow Alabama-based production company Foolish Henry Films to make Spiritus. Foolish Henry Films was behind the feature Death to the World and the short film City Federal, both of which are available on Amazon Prime.

Spiritus is unrated; viewer discretion is advised. See the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teiD-ZTfoSo

So if you’re in the Montgomery, AL area this Saturday, make plans to attend.

Also, I filmed and edited some cast and crew interviews regarding the film. We’ve been releasing those periodically and sharing them on the Spiritus Facebook page. The first two are out already (see below), and there are more in the pipeline.

Quick film updates

Just a couple of quick updates:

1. The first review of Spiritus is up at the Horror Movie Freaks website.

“A slow burning tale of a spectres revenge and learning your actions have consequences…even beyond the grave!” 4/5 stars.

2. The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is going on March 2-4 in Florence, AL. If you happen to be in that area on March 2, Four Thousand Wings is screening, along with two films written and directed by my friend C. DeWayne Cunningham of Carolyn Jean’s Son VISIONS – Best Friends Forever and The Pretty Brunette.

See the 2017 schedule here.

More coming soon…

‘Spiritus’ trailer has arrived!

The Foolish Henry Films crew joined together with Buck’s Row last year to help produce L.C. Holt’s debut feature film Spiritus, and today, the official trailer is up on YouTube:

One year after the mysterious death of Marjorie Hines, a group of her friends – each grieving in their own way – begin to suspect there was more to her suicide than initially suspected. More and more details emerge as one of them attempts to make a documentary film about her life, details which suggest some of them may be more to blame than others. The only problem is that Marjorie’s spirit is restless and ready to claim vengeance, one way or the other. It’s going to take more than amateur detective work to appease the monster waiting in the dark.

Be sure to like the Spiritus page on Facebook.

Film updates for Dec. 2016

I know I haven’t been blogging much lately, but I wanted to take a moment to provide a few updates on what’s been going on lately.

Writer/director Sylvester Folks, left, on set of Justus and Pece. Photo by Sherman Williams.

I mentioned last month that Sylvester Folks had a new short film production underway. On that project – Justus and Pece – my job was to cover audio (production sound/boom operator.) We wrapped principal photography on Dec. 4, and it is now in editing.

One of the main characters in that short is played by Ce Anderson, a writer and director herself. Just before Thanksgiving, we started working on her short film Lullaby, on which I’m serving as Director of Photography. We still have more to go on that one, but I think we got a really good start in the three days we’ve shot so far.

And in other news, the official trailer for Spiritus (produced by Buck’s Row in association with Foolish Henry Films) will be available on Jan. 2, 2017.

Film updates for Nov. 2016

Just wanted to give some quick film updates.

This past Saturday, writer/director Trishunda Mooney held a screening for her short film Land of the Freed at the Sanctuary in downtown Montgomery. I served as Director of Photography on that film, and Terrible Master Films is a co-producer.

We had a good crowd, and I appreciate the great feedback we received on the film. The film’s editor, C. DeWayne Cunningham of Carolyn Jean’s Son Visions, captured this clip of Trishunda during the Q&A session after the screening:

13692827_1140419289355534_4407476906249183579_oThe horror film Spiritus, written and directed by L.C. Holt and produced by Buck’s Row in association with Foolish Henry Films, is complete. Shane Gillis (director and co-writer of Death to the World) has finished the score, and the finishing touches have been applied.

Speaking of Shane, his band Witchchord put out their debut album on Halloween. It’s called “Nerostar,” and it’s available on Bandcamp.

And production has begun on a new short film by Sylvester Folks, the writer/director behind The Ghost and the Negro and Mercy and Plea. It’s called Justus & Pece, and it will continue production in the coming weeks. More news on that soon.

Thanks for reading.

12750367_983389758393792_1616893977_nI haven’t blogged much lately, and my social media presence has been somewhat scarce, so I figured I’d take a few moments to write about what’s been going on lately.

Recently, I served as director of photography for a short film called Land of the Freed, written and directed by Trishunda Mooney. Just prior to that, I got to do some acting and serve as co-director of photography with writer/director C. DeWayne Cunningham of Carolyn Jean’s Son Visions on his short Best Friends Forever.

I attended opening night of the Cloverdale Playhouse production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a very funny play (still going – get tickets ASAP!) that I also got to do some promo photography for.

I also took some time to do a little catching up on movies I’ve been wanting to see, including the new Star Wars, The Revenant, Knock Knock, The Green Inferno, and Triple 9, which is where the quote in this blog title came from.

And yesterday it was announced that Buck’s Row, in association with Foolish Henry Films, is holding a casting call for a new film called Spiritus, written and directed by L.C. Holt (V/H/S2, You’re Next, Pop Skull.) I’m very excited to be serving as 1st assistant director on that project.

And if you’ll be in the Florence/Muscle Shoals area tomorrow (Thursday), the short film City Federal is screening in the 4 pm block of the 2016 George Lindsey UNA Film Festival. Details here.

Of course, I’ll update more as things progress. Thanks for reading!
