3 years later and I’m back! On a theatre stage, that is.
As you may know, I’ve been acting for a number of years, and when people found out I was an actor, some would ask “what theatre?” And I would respond with “I’m a film actor; I get multiple chances to get it right.”
But three years ago I joined the cast of Sweat at the Cloverdale Playhouse and couldn’t really use that line anymore.
Well, now I’m back on stage again, this time playing “Sheriff Tom Lane” in The Bachelorette Party at the Wetumpka Depot. We opened last Thursday, and the show runs until April 27. It’s funny! It’s a farce! The reviews have been great! So make sure to get tickets!
This play, like the last one I was in, has a great cast and crew, and it’s been (and continues to be) a wonderful experience. Honestly, the only reason I haven’t done more of these is the time commitment, but this worked out well with my schedule, and I’m happy to be part of the team.
So get tickets and come to the show!
Also, this is a good time to remind you to support your local theaters. I know I have some readers outside the central Alabama area, so I encourage you to locate and support the ones in your area as well. But I gotta say, we’re pretty lucky around these parts when it comes to theaters. Montgomery is known for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, which is the beautiful pro theater and does great work, but we’ve got at least five community theaters all within a short distance – the Cloverdale Playhouse (Montgomery), the Wetumpka Depot (Wetumpka), the Way Off Broadway Theatre (Prattville), the Millbrook Community Players (Millbrook), and the Pike Road Theatre Co. (Pike Road.) And one that’s a bit more of a trek down the road from here is the Red Door Theatre in Union Springs.
And if you’re lucky enough to have a local movie theatre still – like the historic Capri in Montgomery – be sure to support them as well! Side note – if you want to know more about the Capri and its interesting history, I directed the film Clover/Capri which you can watch on YouTube.
And if you’re into documentaries, both of my feature documentaries on available for free on Tubi:
Commit to the Song: The Joe Thomas Jr. Guitar Pull
And since I mentioned YouTube, I’ve posted more live videos on my channel, so check those out and be sure to subscribe while you’re there.
I think that’s all for now. Thanks for reading, liking, subscribing, supporting, and showing the love you do. Much love right back atcha!
